This southwesterly view of the bulk of the mountain's upper reaches speaks of winter barrenness. The two Lakes of the Clouds, glacial tarns scoured out more than 100 centuries ago, lie in the snow-filed hollows in the foreground. Ammonoosuc Ravine lies in the shadow to the left.
